2024 Bridgeport Area Race Series (BARS)

Helping local charitable and community service organizations/causes

Thank you to our 2024 Sponsors: Bridgeport Running and Spectrum Optical.

BARS Details

The object of this series is to promote increased participation in member races and, as a result, heighten awareness of and funding for the various race-supported causes. With the continued support of area runners and event sponsors, the BARS strives to continue our success.

  • The 2024 BARS consists of 10 different races, with varying distances.

  • You are automatically entered in the series.

  • Scheduled races and race dates are subject to change. Reasonable efforts will be made to notify series entrants if and when such changes occur. BARS officials do not assume responsibility for date changes or cancellations of affiliate races.

  • Your final score will be the total points for the top 7 races you complete in the series. You must run a minimum of 7 races to be eligible for year-end awards. (We encourage you to run as many as you can.)

  • Guidelines issued by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission limit the type of awards that students may accept to plaques, trophies, certificates, etc. To protect the status of student athletes, all entrants who are enrolled in grades 6 through 12 at the end of the year will be ineligible to receive any series competition award of monetary value.

The Point System

  • The BARS is responsible for scoring results provided to us from the race directors. We do not have the authority to revise any results.

  • Age Graded Points - We are using the WMA age grading system. Your time will be age graded using factors that depend upon your age and the distance of the race. We then take the theoretical world record (for the distance, your age, and sex) and divide it by your time to get a percentage. We multiply by 100 to get an integer. Points will be rounded to the nearest whole number for display purposes, but fractions of points will be used to determine the standings.

  • There is a link below that will take you to the calculator we are using for 2024. The link also explains how the scores are calculated and deriving factors to determine your score.

  • Participation: For every mile raced in the series, you will receive 1 point. This is not limited to your top 6 races. Kilometers are converted to miles and rounded down for each race.

Unsporting Conduct

Acts of misconduct are subject to disciplinary action within the Bridgeport Area Race Series. If misconduct occurs at a BARS scheduled event; before, during, or after the race, a complaint may be submitted to the BARS officials within 12 hours of the race start time. Complaints may be emailed to info@bridgeportrunning.com. The BARS officials reserve the right to discredit a participant's points for a race if unsportsmanlike conduct is proven. Unsporting conduct includes, but is not limited to course cutting, verbal abuse, harassment, unprofessionalism, etc. Misconduct must be proven/verified by 2 separate sources. Sources include: video, photo, complaint from another participant, spectator, volunteer, GPS. Should there be 2 events of proven misconduct against the same participant in the Bridgeport Area Race Series, said participant may be removed from the BARS for the remainder of the year.

Award Ceremony/Baquet

Top 10 male and female participants that are eligible will be awarded. Should you choose not to participate in the BARS, you are not required to attend the award ceremony or accept any year-end awards. We will still score you if you participate in a BARS event as we do not have authority to revise race results. After the series is over and the scores are tallied for your top 7 races + all participation points, we will schedule a banquet in January to celebrate everyone’s accomplishments. We do hope that you will join us!
